Veterans Q Original Barbecue Sauce is a naturally sweet tomato based sauce that has a slight kick at the end.  This sauce is great for grilling, smoking, dipping, or use as a condiment.  It is perfect for beef, pork, poultry, vegetables, eggs, and even tofu.  Veterans Q Original Barbecue Sauce is also thinning than most commercial barbecue sauces which makes it great for a perfect glaze and salad dressing.

Ingredients: Ketchup(tomato concentrate, sugar, vinegar, salt, onion powder, spice, natural flavors), Brown Sugar, Pineapple Juice, Water, Molasses, Mustard Flour, Worcestershire Sauce (vinegar, molasses, sugar, water, salt, onions, anchovies, garlic, cloves, tamarind extract, natural flavoring, chili pepper extract), Salt, Smoked Paprika, Spices, Black Pepper, Granulated Garlic. Hello, my name is Steve Lulofs and I am the creator of Veterans Q Barbecue Sauces & Dry Rubs. I am an Army veteran and served from 2002-2010 and was deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004 with the 980th EN BN, 1st CAV DIV out of Ft Hood, TX. While in the Army I was a Combat Heavy Engineer and enjoyed my time greatly. After coming home from Iraq, I got really involved in a few veteran organizations around Chicago and nationwide and continue to this day to be involved in the veteran community.

Also, I come from a military family and grew up as an Air Force brat. My grandfather fought with the Dutch Army during WWII, my father and eldest brother both retired from the Air Force, and my youngest brother served in the Army for a number of years. Both of my brothers were deployed to multiple conflicts during their time in the military.

Anyways, I started to barbecue in April 2015. I received my first smoker and I thought that I was able to make really good ribs. After watching the show BBQ Pitmasters, I got inspired to do a rib competition. So I searched the internet to see if there were any rib competitions in the Chicagoland area. I came across a competition in September. This gave me a couple months to practice my "skills". When I was filling out the application, I saw that I had to get my application in that day and only had 10-15 minutes to fill out the application before the postal worker gave by. When I reached the team name section, I had no idea of a name so the first thing that popped up was "veterans" and "Q" (after my favorite Pitmaster's logo; Tuffy Stone. Therefore, Veterans Q became the official team name.

While practicing for the rib competition, I thought that you had to make your own rubs and barbecue sauce. So I started to hit the internet and figure out what ingredients are in barbecue sauce and barbecue rubs. I found the most common ingredients and started to experiment and try new sauces and rubs. I would have "tasting parties" where my neighbors, family, and friends would come by and give me their honest opinions. After a couple of months, I had my rubs and sauces "perfected" and went off to compete in the rib competition. After I turned in my ribs, I knew that my ribs were good but there was no way that I could have come close to win it or even hear my name called since there were 62 teams total and some of the teams are "professionals". When the awards were announced, the announcer called "2nd place ribs winner, Veterans Q". I was shocked and hyped at the same time. This changed my life and started this barbecue journey.

The next year (2016), I continued to smoke food and compete in barbecue competitions. The very first rib competition I did in 2016 and 3rd competition ever, I won 1st place and received a check for $100. I just loved barbecuing and wanted to do something different, so I decided to donate my winnings to a veteran organization. During that summer, I was also asked to cater a few parties for friends and neighbors. Again, I loved to barbecue and see people happy over my food, so I decided to donate my profits after expenses to veterans. After doing a few catering gigs, I was asked by people where they could buy my barbecue sauce.

I started to make batches of barbecue sauce in my kitchen and it was too expensive and I was losing $0.50 off every bottle I made plus the time it took to make. So I reached out to the barbecuing community here in Chicago and was told about a few different places. I found a manufacture that I felt was a good chose to make my sauce. On February 13, 2017, I received my first order of Veterans Q Barbecue Sauce. I thought that my order would take about 2 years to sell, little did I know that it would sell out in 2 months.

Since February 13, 2017, you can find Veterans Q Barbecue Sauce in 200 plus stores in 10 different states, and online. It has been a crazy road so far and I am loving every minute of it.  For more information, check out out website at VeteransQ.com or our social media pages.
